Alzheimer's Disease is one of the most debilitating of all conditions. Not only does it warp your body's ability to perform physical tasks but it wipes clean your memory, leaving you with limit understanding of your surroundings as you age. A new report indicates that there may be a way to reduce the risk of developing the condition and to do so, people just need to eat more fish.
How It Works
According to research conducted and presented by the Radiological Society of North America, those who eat either broiled or baked fish at least one time per week had the ability to improve brain health. This also worked to reduce the risk of developing both Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment. The study, conducted at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center showed that those who consumed these types of foods had better preservation of the gray matter volume in the brain. This was based on MRI scans done to compare the results. The specific area of the brain that doctors focused on was those commonly affected by Alzheimer's disease.
Gray matter itself is critical to the overall health of the brain. Studies and research indicate that when gray matter volume is high, this indicates the brain health is able to be maintained. When the volume of gray matter falls, on the other hand, this indicates that the brain's cells are shrinking in size.
Do you know anyone that is afflicted with this condition? Do they consume a great deal of fish in their diets? Will you change your habits after the study information?
