Last week, I went a little crazy and posted quite a few articles about the female orgasm. During my “research” (and no, I did not, unfortunately conduct any of my own experiments yet), I came across some rather interesting studies about both male and female orgasms. Specifically, I ran into different studies and articles highlighting the benefits of orgasm. i don't mean the great feeling it gives you, or even the fact that your brain temporarily freezes (if you're a woman), but instead am referring to the long-term benefits of continued, regular orgasms.
Here’s a sampling of what the “experts” had to say:
1. Less Stress. Kinsey's research in the 1950's showed not only a reduction of stress, but that people who were having more orgasms were less violent and less hostile. Additionally, the lack of stress leads to a lower risk of heart disease for both men and women. I don't know if it counterbalances the risks of say a bacon and eggs breakfast, but it could be worth a "shot" (so to speak).
2. Fewer sick leaves. This was not so well documented as the first one, so I'm not really sure about the correlation, but I think it logically follows that if people are supposedly healthier from more orgasms, they will take less sick leave. (Of course, this could have the reverse effect if people were staying home and having “more orgasms” for this reason.
3. Newer studies (and I read about this in multiple sites) have shown that orgasms reduce the chance of prostate cancer in men.
4. Longer Life Span. Dr. Michael Roizen, known for his health-books, really believes in the power of sex and orgasms in particular. He claims, "The typical man who has 350 orgasms a year, versus the national average of a quarter of that, lives about four years longer." When asked for the optimum number of orgasms, Dr. Roizen recommended 800 a year. I think anyone that can sustain that kind of pace for a long time is some sort of Superman and not subject to the normal laws of man. For those who can't keep up with 800 a year, "two or three orgasms a week will still yield benefits.”
5. Your sense of smell will improve if you have sex often enough. No word on how often you have to get busy in order to obtain this result.
6. Weight Loss. Sex itself can burn about 200 calories. I am also wondering about this one, because I have a feeling that all sexual partners are not created equal. Not necessarily based on any personal experience, but I'm just saying....
